HOW CAN I REGISTER IN THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN?
Students wishing to enroll in the Annual Course in the Fundación Cristina Heeren should take the following steps:
  1. Send  in the application for registration which can be found on the website, clearly indicating the course and the specialisation chosen.
  2. Pay the entire fee of the annual course (5,000 euros) before the beginning of the course by one the following payment methods:
    Single payment. Complete payment of the full fee at the time of enrolment, due by 31st July. Those who make the payment in this way will be entitled to a discount of 2.5% on the total price of registration
    In two payments. Payment of 50% of the total amount at the time of enrolment, due by 31st July, and payment of the remaining 50% before the beginning of the course, due by 15th September
  3. Send the not-in-person (i.e. online) level tests before the 31st of July
Students who wish to study only one semester of the Annual Flamenco Course in the Cristina Heeren Foundation should proceed as follows:
  1. Send the enrolment application that appears on our webpage, clearly specifying the term and the chosen speciality.
  2. Those students who choose to study the first semester of the annual course should pay the entire fee for the semester (2,800) before the 31st of July prior to the start of the course. Those students who choose to study the second semester of the annual course should pay the entire fee for the semester (2,800 euros) before the 15th of December of the applicable course.
  3. Send the not-in-person (i.e. online) level tests before the 31st of July
Students wishing to enroll in the Intensive Summer Flamenco Course in the Fundación Cristina Heeren should take the following steps:
  1. Send the application for registration to be found on the website, clearly stating the course and the specialisation chosen.
  2. Pay the full course fee (950 euros) before the 31st of May before the beginning of the course.
  3. Send the not-in-person (i.e. online) level tests before the 31st of May prior to the beginning of the summer course.
Students wishing to study a workshop in the Fundación Cristina Heeren should take the following steps:
  1. Send the application for registration that appears on the website, clearly stating the course and the specialisation chosen.
  2. Pay the total cost of the month within the first five days of the said month.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN I GET MY TUITION DEPOSIT BACK IF I CANCEL MY REGISTRATION?
No. The tuition deposit canNOT be refunded for any reason.
CAN I REGISTER FOR A TERM OR A SEMESTER WITHIN THE ANNUAL COURSE?
It is not possible to enroll for a period of less than one term within the annual course at the Cristina Heeren Foundation. The study plan in the Cristina Heeren Foundation only considers complete annual courses. Exceptionally, students may enroll in only one term of the annual course, but at a price greater than the result of dividing the price for the complete course by terms. For this demand for periods of less than one term, the Foundation offers a wide range of Workshops (extra-curricular).
Similarly, it is not possible to apply any type of discount to those students who do not wish or are unable to receive any of the subjects included in the Cristina Heeren Foundation study plans.
CAN I TAKE PERCUSSION LESSONS AT THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN?
No, you cannot take percussion lessons, but you can take rhythm and clapping lessons ("compás" and "palmas").
CAN I TAKE SPANISH CLASSICAL LESSONS IN THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN?
No, you cannot take Spanish classical dance lessons.  The Fundación Cristina Heeren offers a Classical ballet workshop in the afternoon-evening (from January 2017).
CAN I CHOOSE SUBJECTS OF DIFFERENT SPECIALISATIONS?
No, it is not possible for a student to take subjects from different specialisations. because the academic programme of the Fundación Cristina Heeren has been designed to be coherent as a whole.
ARE THERE OPTIONAL SUBJECTS IN THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME?
Yes, the Academic Programme allows for an optional subject in each course. The choice is free, regardless of the specialisation or the level where the student is registered. The optional subjects are the following:
  • Spanish Course for foreigners.
  • Language and Music Theory (Intermediate level of Spanish required).
  • Flamenco Harmony (high intermediate level of Flamenco guitar required).
There will be an increase of optional subjects from the academic year 2017/2018 on.
WHICH ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER FOR THE ANNUAL COURSE?
Students wishing to study the First Annual Course should be able to perform the following:

DANCE

  • Simple turn on the axis.
  • Basic notions of foot-work: "zapateado" (sole, midfoot sole, heel).
  • Basic notions of arm movements ("braceo").
  • Hand movements in the 1st position.
  • Body coordination with weight change.

GUITAR

  • Simple strumming ("Rasgueado").
  • Arpeggio.
  • Basic chords.
  • Previous music experience in Flamenco or in any other music genre. First year guitar students must be able to play the guitar, since the aim of the School is to teach flamenco, not to teach how to play the guitar.

SINGING / CANTE

  • The ability to carry a tune and to follow a rhythmic pattern.
HOW DO I KNOW IN WHICH LEVEL I BELONG?
If you are a new student at the Cristina Heeren Foundation, please help us place you in the course that best meets your needs and objectives.
And don’t be afraid of the level tests. We just need to get to know you!

Keep in mind that the level tests are only indicative and are to facilitate your placement in the level that is most suited to your knowledge and skills.

The Cristina Heeren Foundation study plan is organised into basic level (1st), intermediate (2nd) and advanced (3rd).

The Cristina Heeren Foundation school’s teachers will determine students’ levels through two indicative tests: the online test and in person (onsite) test, for both the Annual Course as well as the Intensive Summer Course.

GUITAR

Students wishing to enroll for the Guitar Annual Courses in the Fundación Cristina Heeren must perform the following exercises:
  • Free choice of 5 technical exercises of:
    • Arpeggio.
    • Strumming ("Rasgueado").
    • Tremolo.
    • Picking("Alzapúa").
    • Staccato ("Picado").
  • 4 rhythm Demos ("compás"): (timing: 1 minute each one)
    • Alegría
    • Seguiriya
    • Soleá
    • Bulería
Note: Students wishing to enroll in the First year Guitar Course are not required to perform all exercises and demos, but only those which they can play.

DANCE

Students wishing to enroll in the First, Second or Third Annual Dance Course must perform the following exercises:
  • A choreographic piece of any "palo" (Flamenco style)(minimum 5 min.- maximum 7 min.).
  • Accompaniment for dancing: the student can use live recordings of guitar and singing. The choreographic piece must include:
    • Foot-work: "Zapateados"
    • Turns.
    • Body expression: arm movement and posture.
Students wishing to enroll in the Third Annual Dance Course must also send an additional video containing:
  • 2 variations with a shawl.
  • 2 songs of castanets (one of them must include "Carretilla": repetitive and fast playing).
  • Dance one verse of "alegrías" with a long-tailed dress ("bata de cola").

SINGING

Students wishing to enroll in the First Annual Singing Course must perform the following exercises:
  • Sing two verses of cantiñas with "coletilla" (the ending).
  • Choices: Two verses of tangos or two verses of "fandangos a compás" (with rhythm).
Students wishing to enroll in the Second or Third Annual Singing Course must perform the following exercises:
  • Two verses of "soleás" and two verses of "bulerías".
  • Any type of "fandango", choosing between: "malagueña", "granaína", "taranta" or "fandango personal".
(*) PLEASE, DO NOT SEND ANY VIDEO! STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS MENTIONED ABOVE.
ON SITE PLACEMENT TESTS
On site placement tests are carried out in the School during the first week of the annual course and they include all the subjects of the academic programme. The teachers grading these tests will determine the definite placement of the students in their appropriate level in every subject of the program.
DOES THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN GIVE ANY DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATE AT THE END OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR?
Yes, at the end of the academic year, the Fundación Cristina Heeren gives a certificate to those students who have passed all end of term exams of every subject. Students not finishing the academic year or not taking the end of term exams will not receive this final certificate. The Fundación Cristina Heeren gives a Final Diploma to those students who complete the 3rd course,  that is the total Study Program.
CAN I STUDY IN THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN IF I CANNOT SPEAK SPANISH?
Yes, it is possible to study in the Fundación Cristina Heeren if you do not speak Spanish but it is helpful to have some knowledge of Spanish in order to understand the explanations of the teachers and to make your stay in Sevilla more comfortable.  Nevertheless, the Fundación offers a "Spanish course for foreigners" as an optional subject within the Annual Study Program.

VISAS

DO I NEED A VISA TO STUDY IN SPAIN?
Students belonging to countries outside the European Union need a visa to study in Spain. For this reason, such students will have to pay in advance the total price of the course in order to receive the certificate which allows them to request the student visa in the Spanish Consulates in their countries. Students belonging to European Union countries do not require a visa. HOW CAN I GET A CERTIFICATE SO THAT I CAN REQUEST A STUDENT VISA?
Students not belonging to European Union countries wishing to request a student visa in order to register at the Fundación Cristina Heeren, can receive a certificate once the total price of the course has been paid.
IF I GET MY VISA AND I DECIDE TO CANCEL MY REGISTRATION, DO I GET ANY MONEY BACK?
Absolutely not. Visas are granted based on the prestige of the academic programme of the Fundación Cristina Heeren. Those students who use the visa as a method to enter Spanish territory for any reason other than to study at our school could be reported to the Spanish Immigration Authorities.
HOW CAN I GET A CERTIFICATE TO OBTAIN FINANCIAL SUPPORT IN MY COUNTRY?
The Fundación Cristina Heeren can issue a certificate supporting the student’s request after detailed analysis of the student’s academic/artistic performance. Such a certificate is not valid to obtain a student visa.

HOUSING AND EMPLOYMENT

CAN THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN HELP ME TO FIND A JOB IN SEVILLA?
No, the Fundación Cristina Heeren cannot help students to find jobs.
CAN THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN HELP ME TO FIND ACCOMMODATION IN SEVILLA?
Students find their own accommodation. However  the Fundación Cristina Heeren can provide them with a list of different addresses and telephone numbers for apartments and rooms for rent. The Fundación Cristina Heeren has no direct responsability for any issues or problems that could occur related to lodging.

GENERAL INFORMATION

WHAT CLASS MATERIAL SHOULD I BRING TO THE FUNDACIÓN CRISTINA HEEREN?
  • Students of the 1st Annual Dance Course should bring dancing shoes and Flamenco practice skirts. Once in Sevilla, teachers could ask them to bring castanets and fans.
  • Students of  the 2nd and 3rd Annual Dance Course should bring practice long-tailed skirts, castanets, shawls, and fans.
  • The School does not provide students with guitars, bridges, or tuning keys. Each guitar student must bring his or her own instrument and accessories to class.
  • Students with singing specialisation can bring to class any audio recording device.
  • Students are recommended to bring an audio recorder for the classes.
